Position Overview:
As a Project Accountant, you will oversee the financial performance of construction projects, ensuring strict adherence to budgets, financial controls, and Puerto Rico’s tax regulations. This role involves budget management, cost control, financial reporting, and close collaboration with project managers to ensure timely billing and supplier payments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage construction project budgets to ensure alignment with initial estimates.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, identify variances, and propose necessary adjustments.
- Collaborate with project managers to review and validate invoices from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Maintain accurate financial records and produce detailed income and expense reports.
- Ensure compliance with Puerto Rico’s tax and labor regulations in all financial procedures.
- Manage the billing process, ensuring proper allocation of costs in accounting systems.
- Conduct periodic reviews of financial processes to ensure adherence to internal standards and regulations.
- Assist in preparing cash flow projections and coordinate with the finance team for resource allocation.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual project closings, ensuring accurate account reconciliations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) prefered.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in project accounting, preferably in the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, budget management, and cost control for construction projects.
- Familiarity with Puerto Rico labor and tax laws.
- Proficiency in accounting software, preferably QuickBooks or Sage.
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with cross-functional teams.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
- Occasional travel to construction sites for meetings or audits, requiring walking on uneven terrain and climbing stairs.
- Ability to lift and carry documents or files weighing up to 10 pounds occasionally.
- Capacity to work under tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
