About the Opportunity

PeopleLift is recruiting a Shop Manager for a leading construction and infrastructure company in Puerto Rico. This role keeps a heavy-equipment fleet running. You'll lead the shop's day-to-day operations, including work orders, parts buying, inventory, and paperwork, so the equipment stays ready and the field crews stay productive.

What You'll Do

• Create, assign, and track work orders for the shop's mechanics
• Oversee inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, trailers, crew trucks, and small-engine equipment
• Source parts: call vendors, get quotes, prepare purchase orders, and follow up on orders and reorders
• Enter purchase orders into the system as they're created, and match invoices and receiving documents to each PO
• Check that incoming supplies and equipment meet the requested specifications
• Keep accurate records of the shop's tools, equipment, and supplies. Run regular inventory counts and report any discrepancies
• Work closely with field staff, mechanics, and supervisors to find and fix mechanical problems early
• Take ownership of the shop's profit and loss, quality control, maintenance processes, and administrative work
• Train team members and keep the shop clean, safe, and organized
• Enforce company safety standards and OSHA regulations

What You Bring

• High school diploma or equivalent. A technical degree or certification in diesel mechanics, automotive technology, or a related field is preferred
• 2–5 years of experience as a mechanic, ideally with heavy equipment or in construction
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
• Skill with hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and repair techniques
• Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Clear communication with mechanics, supervisors, and vendors
• Computer skills, preferably Microsoft Office
• Valid driver's license (CDL preferred)
• Welding experience is a plus
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus

Physical Requirements & Schedule

• Able to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs
• Comfortable working outdoors, in confined spaces, and in noisy shop conditions
• Available for flexible hours, including overtime, and occasional travel to job sites
